Membership Benefits

Institutional Membership Benefits
APPAM offers its institutional members benefits that currently include discounts on listing employment positions on www.PublicServiceCareers.org, a listing in the Institutional Member Directory, discounts for advertising in APPAM conference programs, participation on the APPAM Committee of Institutional Representatives, the opportunity to host future APPAM conferences outside of Washington, DC, ability to nominate persons for the APPAM Ph.D. Dissertation Award, and recognition in various APPAM publications. Please note that institutional membership does not include individual membership benefits for persons employed at an APPAM institutional member. In order to enjoy individual membership benefits, a person must arrange for payment of individual membership dues.

Individual Membership Benefits
APPAM offers its individual members benefits that currently include free subscription to the Journal of Policy Analysis and Management, reduced conference registration fees, reduced subscription prices for other research journals, and a special membership rate for joining the U.K. Social Policy Association. There are "members only" features of the APPAM website including a searchable membership directory and a special listing of other research conferences related to public policy and management. To join APPAM please see the Join APPAM page on this site for information on annual membership dues.

Journal of Policy Analysis and Management
Launched in 1981, the Journal of Policy Analysis and Management is widely recognized as a leading research journal in the field. In addition to feature research articles, JPAM offers special sections including Curriculum and Case Notes, Point/Counterpoint, Professional Practice, and Book Reviews. Published quarterly (Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall) by John Wiley & Sons, Inc., all APPAM members may receive JPAM in print and/or access the journal on-line. For more information, see the links under "Publications" in the navigation bar above this page.

Conference Registration Fees
APPAM intentionally sets the registration fees for the Fall Research Conference to create an incentive for persons to join the association. The registration fees for 2008 are as follows:

Membership Status Early Registration Regular Registration
Student Members $   65.00 $   75.00
Student Non-Members $   90.00 $100.00
Regular Members $240.00 $290.00
Other Non-Members $340.00 $390.00

Depending on the income category, a non-student/regularly employed person attending the conference might break even or save $20 or $40 by joining the association at the same time. The APPAM Policy Council approved these conference fees in April 2008, and will review them periodically to ensure the success of the Fall Research Conference.

Subscription Discounts for other Research Journals
At this time APPAM has arranged subscription discounts to several other research journals. Additional discounts are being added. If you would like to recommend a journal, please have the publisher contact the APPAM office. For more information on the journal discounts, including a form members may use to pay for journal subscriptions, please click here.

Special Dues Rate to Join the U.K. Social Policy Association
APPAM and the U.K. Social Policy Association (UKSPA) have signed an agreement permitting a member in one association to join the other association at the lowest regular rate. For APPAM this rate currently is $60/year, and for UKSPA that rate is £34/year. Membership in UKSPA includes subscriptions to the Journal of Social Policy and Social Policy and Society. For more information on the UKSPA, please click here.
