Thirtieth Annual APPAM Research Conference
6-8 November, 2008 - Wilshire Grand Hotel - Los Angeles, CA
The Next Decade - What Are the Big Policy Challenges?
General Information: Conference Home | Proposals Checklists | Proposals Guidelines | Participants Guidelines
Proposals: Proposal Notifications
Other Information: Job Interviews at the Conference

Panel, Roundtable and Workshop Submissions
If submitting a panel you must include a title and a separate abstract for each paper within that panel. In addition, panels usually should include no more than 3 papers, a chair, and a maximum of 2 discussants. Roundtable proposals should include no more than 4 participants plus a chair/moderator. APPAM strongly encourages proposals that include practitioners in substantive roles and otherwise are inclusive of diversity in the field. Click Proposal Check-Lists for additional requirements. Exceptions to these guidelines must be approved by the program committee.
Contact Information
When submitting any type of proposal it is essential that the contact information is listed for all those designated in the proposal. In addition, listing a primary contact person is also important because, once the program committee has decided which proposal will be included in the 2008 conference, APPAM often will contact only the person designated as the primary contact on the proposal.
Conference Proposal Categories
To make it easier to assign your proposal for review by the Program Committee, we ask that you indicate the area (or areas) in which you would prefer your proposal to be categorized. Please refer to the list below or indicate another area if your area is not listed. More information about the categories may be found in the Frequently Asked Questions.
Participation Limits
APPAM seeks as many people to participate in the conference as possible. We want conference participants to have the opportunity to hear from a variety of presenters. Therefore, APPAM limits the number of roles participants can play in the conference. For example, we generally do not allow a participant to present more than one paper. However, a participant can perform two different roles, for example, by presenting a paper and chairing a panel. Additionally, participants may be listed as co-authors of more than one accepted paper but they usually will only be allowed to present once.
Registration
APPAM requires that all program participants must register for the conference. Pre-registration will begin in the month of August. There will be a substantial discount for those who pre-register for the conference. While you need not be a member of APPAM to present at the conference, presenters are encouraged to join the organization.
Notification of Decision
Decisions regarding acceptance and rejection of papers/panels will be announced in late June/early July. If your proposal is accepted, paper authors will be asked to submit by early September an electronic copy of the paper to be posted on-line. The papers will be made available on-line prior to and during the conference. APPAM does not archive the papers after the conference.
Conference Information on the Web
The Call for Proposals and the electronic proposal forms may be found on the APPAM web site at www.appam.org. In August a conference schedule, registration forms, preliminary program, and other information also will be available on the web site, and later in the fall the conference papers database will be available for you to use.
